Anthony enjoys a great Summer in Australia - 14/12/2009
Ants followed on from his 10th place finish at the China Classic and 3rd played finish at the WA Open to have an excellent end to the summer.
After a weeks break before the JB Were Australian Masters, With rounds of 72, 72, 72 it was actually Sunday which didnt go ideally with a 5 over 77 to finish the week in 63rd spot but with confidence that his game was right on track.
Tiger Woods turned up to play and with crowds 6 to 8 deep tee to green watching him it was an unreal experience being at the event.
It was then up to New South Wales to play in the NSW PGA Championship
where after rounds of 70 and 69 Ants missed the cut by 1 shot and what
worked out to be a well timed weekend off.
The NSW Open was played at the Vintage Resort up in the Hunter Valley Famous Wine Country in Aussie. Ants and I stayed at an awesome little
camping ground. With rounds of 70, 71, 74 and 73 it was a 18th place
finish. Sunday was unreal, shooting 2 over Ants rose 19 spots with the
average score close to 80 on Sunday. They say Wellington blows, you
have no idea. We played in a sand storm and winds greater than
any Famous Wellington Northerly. We walked off the course, and felt
like we had just played in India.
The Australian Open was played at the NSW Golf Course, a brilliant
course as long as you are the caddy. It ended up being what seemed like
the longest week ever. During the tournament week we spent 29 and half
hours on the course either playing or waiting to play. Played just the
four rounds!!
It has been well documented that with the course being so exposed to
the NSW coast line, the greens should be left to run at 8-9 on the
meter but this was decided not to be the best plan and come Friday
morning, a Southerly as good as we ever get in Wellington had the balls
blowing off the greens and the players ecstatic.
Ants had rounds of 77, 72 to make the cut on the number, a 74 Saturday
and then the highlight of the week being Sunday No wind a 3 under 69
to finish in 34th spot.
The Australian PGA was played on the Sunshine Coast at the Hyatt
regency resort in Coolum. It was the first time there for me and I
witnessed firsthand why the players love the event. Great Course, great
weather and everyone is chilled, as in very little stress.
With rounds of 71, 71 Anthony made the cut nicely. Playing Saturday
with Mathew Goggin and Scott Laycock, they all shot 3 under to sit in
17th spot. With 17 pars and a bogey it was a 1 over par 72 to finish
Sunday and in 24th position.
Anthony has since Gone Fishing and its well deserved after an excellent end to 2009.
First event back in 2010 will be the Victorian Open starting the 7th of January.
